I usually struggle more with Tuesdays than Mondays because I’m usually fairly refreshed from the weekend on Monday and Tuesday follows a 10-10 work day. But today is a much better day than yesterday & it just got better with a knock on the door from UPS.
I already follow Joy on Pinterest but had not actually seen her blog. I stumbled on it last week & fell in love. Her post The Art of Being a Goal-Getter, (in parts 1 & 2) really spoke to me because I have always felt that I was meant to do something different, something less traditional and something a little less 9-5ish. It’s not the hours that I don’t like, it’s the same [boring] routine every day. (Although a steady paycheck every week is a nice perk, I will say.)
Her summary of different jobs and transitions put me more at ease in comparison to my own life. So of course I ordered both of her books: Blog Inc & Creative, Inc. I could have ordered them on my Kindle & had the ereader version for a little less… but there’s something so gratifying and nerdy about real books & I’ll tell ya – these are beauties & I’m so excited!
Can’t wait to get going & share what I’m sure will be genius insights!
If you want to get into blogging, or designing of some sort – it’s quite helpful if you have an abundance of ideas. If you’re like me, ideas come at all times and you might forget one or two, or all of them if you don’t arm yourself with tools to harness the brainwaves that come at any point during the day.
I took the advice that Elsie from A Beautiful Mess gave a while back and I got a sketchbook. Can I say that she was absolutely and completely right? Most of my ideas come to me when I’m doing things, usually mundane things that don’t require too much active thinking; driving, showering, laying in bed trying to fall asleep, etc.
Now that I’ve invested in a sketch book (that fits in my purse or any bag I might have for the day), thoughts turn into pictures with captions & detail so that I can revisit them later. Even if you’re not looking to blog, or design anything, but maybe just to capture some of your best bursts of thought – carry a sketch book.
It’s been a few days, I’ve been trying to be patient so as to let the final blog design be complete before I posted again.

If any of you out there are looking to personalize your own blog and don’t know how to mess with all of that CSS code nonsense, I recommend looking on Etsy for a designer. I did just this, and found a blog makeover package for the bargain price of $62.00 as compared to several hundreds of dollars from larger companies. The bit I didn’t realize, was that WordPress charges a $30 a year customization fee to change the layout and look of your blog, but I prefer the layout to Blogger.. so, there you have it.
Can I first just say that I LOVE the new look? I’ve always been drawn to dandelions and turquoise colors. We incorporated both with a splash of color in between for a whimsy feel. After we installed the layout, I begin to feel a bit uneasy. The point of this blog was to create a professional platform to showcase my portfolio and to build an online presence/self brand. But the more I got to thinking about it, I thought: why not whimsical? Who says a little whimsy isn’t professional?
