Darling Little Things:Two for Tuesday.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I usually struggle more with Tuesdays than Mondays because I’m usually fairly refreshed from the weekend on Monday and Tuesday follows a 10-10 work day. But today is a much better day than yesterday & it just got better with a knock on the door from UPS.

I already follow Joy on Pinterest but had not actually seen her blog. I stumbled on it last week & fell in love. Her post The Art of Being a Goal-Getter, (in parts 1 & 2) really spoke to me because I have always felt that I was meant to do something different, something less traditional and something a little less 9-5ish. It’s not the hours that I don’t like, it’s the same [boring] routine every day. (Although a steady paycheck every week is a nice perk, I will say.)

Her summary of different jobs and transitions put me more at ease in comparison to my own life. So of course I ordered both of her books: Blog Inc & Creative, Inc. I could have ordered them on my Kindle & had the ereader version for a little less… but there’s something so gratifying and nerdy about real books & I’ll tell ya – these are beauties & I’m so excited!

Can’t wait to get going & share what I’m sure will be genius insights!

blog and freelance oh joy

Hope your Tuesday is just as delightful!

A fabulous weekend DIY

I’ve been working on a bedroom makeover board as well as a living room update board on Pinterest. I’ve been incorporating changes into our house & the latest detail is adding a variety of prints all around the house.

Adding art to your space can put a hurtin on your wallet or it can be an opportunity to be creative. I chose the latter because I would prefer to stretch my dollars to do more rather than less. (Wouldn’t we all?)

This is a very simple, quick DIY with a huge amount of instant gratification.

I found some basic, simple black frames from Target. Three frames for $9

I had been playing around with phrases and fonts and chose a more affectionate option for this project because these frames will be going in our bedroom.

I took the glass out of the frame and used it as a guide to figure out where I wanted the words to be inside the frame. I traced it once I was happy with it.

imageI recently picked up one of these paper cutters at Hobby Lobby. I can’t believe I haven’t been using one for my home projects for all of this time! My only issue is the size of the cutter. I had to trim the page a bit to fit it, but it gives a much cleaner line and doesn’t ruffle the paper as much as cutting it by hand. So, if you don’t have one of these- I definitely recommend going to get one. This one was $5.99 & with a 40% coupon, only cost me about $4 bucks. The bigger ones are pretty affordable with a 40% off coupon as well. It’s on my want list.

I popped the glass back in & added the page & voila! Simple & beautiful.

For now, it’s sitting with a couple succulents and with our “I Love You Because” frame that we write love notes back and forth on. I have plans to add at least 2 more (maybe 3 or 4), different sizes & different prints.

I have plans brewing to add some to our side tables and some to go with some oversized prints on the mantle as well. They’re just propped up against the wall, not using their stands. I’m loving a layered print look right now & can’t wait to add more!

Quick. Easy. Customizable. Beautiful.

The perfect DIY!

Darling Little Things: Better photos with Photojojo

Have you heard of the Photojojo store? It’s an online shop with all kinds of AWESOME stuff for taking better photos on less traditional mediums, like with your phone or iPad. I have a Nikon D3000 that I love but don’t use as often as I should because I don’t carry it with me everywhere. I carry my phone and my iPad with me much more often.

The drawback with relying on a camera phone and iPad is that that some of the quality is lost by taking that quick shot. I’m not saying that you can’t have great photos using your phone, you absolutely can.. it just takes more thought & maybe an add on app or equipment.

I’ve been relying on my phone and iPad more exclusively recently to do all of my photos for this blog and feel that they’re lacking.. so I’ve decided to finally buy some things I’ve been eyeing from the Photojojo store.

photojojo lenses

I ordered a 4 pack of lenses that can be used on my phone & are easily removable and reattached to my iPad. I can’t wait to test them out & see what I can do differently with my images.

Here’s a coupon code for all of you to to buy some awesome Photojojo items as well:

$5 off Photojojo Order

Just click the link & add items to your cart. a $5 discount appears when you go to check out.

Cheers!

SparkLovely Etsy Shop Opens!

It’s hump day & I have an announcement!

I’ve been flirting with the idea of opening up an Etsy shop for some time & have finally done so!

For right now, I’ll be concentrating on building end tables and side tables out of vintage suitcases and will hopefully expand to include other fun home accessories. It’s just a start for right now, so I’ll be on the hunt for great fabrics and an array of suitcase sizes but am open to interpretation and will do my best to accommodate any special requests including certain colors, height dimensions, etc.

I built one for my sister as a housewarming gift/birthday present and it’s been a hit. I’m loving unconventional items for furniture pieces and storage and these tables definitely fill both of those needs.

Project Life Updates: Weeks 5 &6

Project Life for weeks 5 & 6 looked like this:

Week 5

FxCam_1361308384222Unfortunately, I’ve been a little bit behind with printing out photos and trying to keep track of all of my items that I want to include so I only have one page for both weeks 5 & 6 vs. the 2 pages for all of the other weeks. It’s definitely easier to do it at the end of the week so you can stay caught up. I’ve been stretching myself a bit thin lately and it’s showing a little. During week 5, of course I have a photo of one of my fur babies lounging, being lazy and so cute. I can’t not take pictures of them. I worked out some Valentine’s Day and February selling incentives for my Mary Kay business and got a super cute little office package from an old friend of mine. They brighten up my desk and fridge.

Week 6

Close UpFxCam_1361308474241

This week was filled with desk organization (post coming soon!) and of course more snuggle and cuddly photos of my puppies (they’re so sweet together). We’ve been focused on trying to eat healthier and have found some new things to try at the local Farmer’s Market (the star fruit in the top left photo) and homemade dog treats in the bottom left photo made of all natural ingredients and house favorites like wheat flour, peanut butter, milk, and honey. It’s a little more work but I feel better giving my pups natural treats and smaller treats so that I know what they’re eating and that they’ll be entertaining and snuggling with us for a long while.

It’s easy to forget the little moments and the “tasks” you checked off on your to-do list during the day and at the end of the week and it kinds of runs together. I’m so glad that I can hone in on the moments with this project.

Are you doing Project Life yet? It’s a growing phenomenon!
